LOCAL CEMETERY MANAGER ELECTED TO STATE-WIDE ORGANIZATION
(Murrieta, CA, March 8, 2018)  Local resident, Marc Baker, General Manager of the Murrieta Valley Cemetery District (MVCD), was elected to the Board of Directors of the California Association of Public Cemeteries (CAPC) at the organization’s annual meeting in February.  The mission of the CAPC is to promote cooperation among public cemeteries and foster the development of improved methods and procedures for governing boards and staff of their member agencies.  As a member of the CAPC Board of Directors Mr. Baker will help oversee the business activities of the organization and participate in policy setting and educational activities.
Mr. Baker began his career with MVCD as Groundskeeper before being promoted to General Manager in July 2015.  MVCD President, Connie McConnell, says her board members are pleased with Mr. Baker’s election.  “We are very proud of the work Marc has done as our General Manager, and are pleased his peers recognize his contribution to the industry.  By participating on the CAPC Board Marc will bring our local voice to a state-wide organization.”
The MVCD has undergone several improvement projects under Mr. Baker’s direction including the development of new burial plots, the addition of a communal Ossuary to provide low-cost burial alternatives, and is currently planning the next phase of expansion which will assure the cemetery will be ready to meet the needs of residents for many years.
The MVCD owns and operates the Laurel Cemetery located in Murrieta.  The cemetery was established in 1886 and sits on 10 acres of land.  The name, Laurel Cemetery, comes from the local wild mountain laurel bush that was common to the region.  The Laurel Cemetery, offers traditional in-ground casket burials, cremation burials, and a niche columbarium. The cemetery is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the on-site office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The walk-in gate (located to the right side of the drive-thru gates) is open 24 hours every day.
